Each year, AIGA Connecticut hosts an Emerging Professionals event targeted at college students. The day features lectures, panel discussions, and portfolio reviews done by established creative professionals. 2016’s event was held at Western Connecticut State University. Because the event itself is meant to encourage and celebrate the talent of young graphic designers, we tapped WCSU student Steven Fleck to create the imagery for this promotional series.

I coordinated with Steven to create the graphics needed to promote this event cohesively across all of AIGA’s channels. I was also tasked with gathering and editing panelist headshots and bios, as well as writing promotional copy, developing and executing a social strategy, building and scheduling HTML emails, updating the organization website, configuring and monitoring registration, and live posting during the event. Because college students are a notoriously hard demographic to convert, the strategy for promoting this event included use of multiple email audience lists: our general list, a list of student members and attendees from years past, and a list of professors. The emails to each of these audiences varied slightly in tone and presentation of information, and professors also received a printable poster that could be displayed in classrooms, around students centers, etc. We also employed paid advertising via Facebook, and I built and executed the campaign and desired audience, resulting in us quadrupling our promotional reach for this event.
