About

AIGA Connecticut’s first event of 2016 featured Bonnie Siegler, owner of firm Eight and a Half, whose clients include Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, HBO, Saturday Night Live, and 30 Rock. Design Observer co-founder Jessica Helfand also joined us to introduce the final selections of the annual 50 Books | 50 Covers competition, which were on display concurrently with the event.

Process

Because this event had multiple components, we, as an organization, had to take care to promote both. The 50 Books | 50 Covers competition is well known on social media and promoted by AIGA at the national level, so there was an abundance of existing content to incorporate into our marketing strategy. Though many of Bonnie’s works are iconic, we found the greatest success bridging the gap between her name and projects by way of animated GIFs, slideshows, and client lists. Bonnie also speaks regularly, so we were able to incorporate sample films into promotion to generate buzz for the event. For this event, I was responsible for coordinating with the graphic designer and sponsorship director to generate assets for cross-platform promotion, setting up and monitoring registration and billing, writing and editing promotional copy, setting up email campaigns, and posting on social media before, during, and after the event.
